Make a Fairy House

Fairy houses are a favourite for a reason — they’re magical, creative, and can be as simple or elaborate as your child wants.

What you’ll need:

  • Fairy garden accessories (mini doors, signs, toadstools, animals)
  • Crystals (tiny tumbles or chips are perfect!)
  • Natural materials: moss, sticks, bark, pebbles, leaves
  • A base like a plant pot, garden bed, shallow tray or patch of grass

How to make it:

  1. Choose your fairy’s home base – indoors or outside!
  2. Build the space – use moss for carpets, bark for walls, stones for paths.
  3. Add accessories – mini doors, mushrooms, fairy pets, etc.
  4. Place crystals – these become fairy treasure or magical protection stones.
  5. Give your fairy a name & story – where do they live, what do they do?

Encourage your child to play with their fairy garden daily — or leave little gifts or notes from the fairies overnight for an extra spark of wonder.

Create a Crystal Grid

Crystal gridding is a calm, focused activity that helps kids connect with shapes, energy, and intention — even if they don’t realise that’s what they’re doing!

What you’ll need:

  • A few small crystals (3–9 is plenty)
  • A flat space (paper, cloth, tray)
  • Optional: leaves, shells, flowers, buttons, or special toys

How to grid:

Let your child choose a theme: love, friendship, calm, dreams, focus.

  1. Help them build a pattern or shape — circle, star, spiral, heart.
  2. Encourage them to sit with it and make a wish or set a feeling.

This is great for a quiet afternoon, before bed, or during a “reset” moment.

Magical Journaling Moments

Journaling helps kids process feelings, explore dreams, and create stories — and it’s extra special with a crystal nearby for support.

If you’ve got one of the Awesome Inc NZ kids or teens journals, you’re already set up! If not, any notebook will do.

Journaling prompts to try:

  • What would your perfect day look like?
  • What are 3 things you’re grateful for today?
  • If you had a magical power, what would it be?
  • Draw your dream bedroom, pet, or holiday.
  • Write a letter to a fairy, crystal, or your future self.

Pair with crystals like Fluorite – for creative focus, Amethyst – for calm and imagination, Rose Quartz – for kindness and confidence.

These school holidays, invite a little sparkle into each day. From building enchanted fairy homes to quiet crystal grids and heartfelt journaling, these activities help kids slow down, feel safe, and use their imagination.
